In the far corners of our mouths, our wisdom teeth remain buried at least until young adulthood. But these teeth also are buried in an ongoing mystery.
Wisdom teeth serve no obvious purpose and often cause us problems. Wisdom teeth become infected, cause chronic pain, become impacted or crowd the other teeth, and push them out of their proper alignment – And still, it is said that about 95 percent of the population has wisdom teeth.
An estimated 90 percent develops at least one impacted wisdom tooth, according to the Alvi Dental Hospital. That typically means an immediate visit to an oral surgeon who has been trained and is qualified to remove the third molars in order to restore basic function to the teeth and jaws.
